it's very interesting reading all this flight talk. flying was my first career back in the 1970s. i think i did a lifetime's worth of flying in about five years - enough for MY abnormal lifetime anyway. <g>

there are probably more interesting "stories" from those five years of my life than any other five but they were not the best five of my life. the best five years of my life are always the most recent five (or the upcoming five)... LIFE, what a trip - it's my favorite thang.

...and NO! i'm not going to get involved in the NNBM flight squadron (other than an observer) for the following reasons...

1) i don't need any more opportunities to feed my computer addiction and distract me from work, family and other interests.
2) i'd need a new computer and a better internet connection than "netzero" to participate.
3) been there, done that... the bumper sticker on my plane, if i still had one, would read, "i'd rather be sailing".
4) my ego would suffer from being shot out of the skies by 10 yr. old kids who can fly circles around me. <g>

the computer flight simulators and flight sim games are MORE realistic and BETTER than $25,000 flight simulators that i used to fly in the 70s. i bought ms flight sim 5.1 about six years ago - bought the flight "yoke", rudder pedals, and throttle attachments too. (total cost for software and hardware attachments - less than $200) i was amazed at the realism and truly believe that someone could learn to fly a "real aircraft" with that program without ever being in a "real aircraft" (with the help of a "real flight instructor", of course). the main difference in "real" flying is that you can NEVER crash. NEVER!... well... ALMOST never... maybe once or twice... softly... though i never did try it - it's WAY too expensive! and there's no "bailing out" either.
