So you don't think the 2000+ square meter clean room expansion AMD is building in Dresden will do the job? Since they are outfitting it with oxygen implanters, I'm assuming that's what it's for...

Well, if AMD is planning on enough SOI wafer generation capability for their entire share of the x86 market, then they almost certainly must use a thin box (low dose) process. As, I've said previously, this is a very tricky process. I see where IBM has licensed their low dose process (developed on IBIS implanters) back to IBIS who now will market it to all comers.(Damn... If I'd bought IBIS calls in Dec) You realize that this means that the original IBIS process probably never delivered VLSI quality material. If AMD gets access to this process, I'd feel a lot better about their move to SOI. I must say if AMD is going all out to generate enough SOI wafer capacity for say 30% of the x86 market, they got bigger balls than even I ever imagined.
