Given the history of MSFT’s leadership position in the NASDAQ, to what extent do you think the approximately 60% drop in MSFT contributed to the drop in the NASDAQ?

About 10% in round numbers. MSFT, INTC, DELL and CSCO represented about 40% of the value of the NAZ at the top.

I don't follow Mr. Softie or the PC sector, so I can't really comment on your view as to the importance of MSFT for the tone of the entire tech market. I concentrate on the telecom sector, where Mr. Softie really is soft. And there's plenty enough blood on the tracks there to do in the NAZ without even considering M$. I see it much as Bill Gates does, a company that is being rapidly obsoleted and made redundant by technological change. Not that the company doesn't have some cash to throw around now and then, just that it doesn't have a very good aim. <g>
