Network Appliance and Webwasher.com Offer First NetCache™ Solution with iCAP-Integrated Internet Access Management, Content Filtering Functions
Joint Solution Results in Initial 46,000-Seat Order and First Annual iCAP Forum Award For WebWasher Enterprise Edition
New York, NY and Sunnyvale, CA - February 9, 2001 -- webwasher.com AG, a leading global developer of Internet filtering software backed by German electronics giant Siemens, and Network Appliance, Inc. (NASDAQ: NTAP), a leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, today announced their completion of the first Network Appliance™ solution to integrate sophisticated Internet access management and content filtering functions with content delivery appliances to deliver significant improvements in network efficiency and security.
This joint solution has already earned a 46,000-seat order for WebWasher Enterprise Edition (EE) content filtering software and a joint installation of Network Appliance NetCache appliances at Munich, Germany-based HypoVereinsbank. Network Appliance and webwasher.com also announced the launch of a joint sales and marketing campaign to promote enterprise sales of their new joint solution, offering integrated content filtering functionality via the Internet Content Adaptation Protocol (iCAP).
In addition, on January 25, 2001, webwasher.com and HypoVereinsbank each received a First Annual iCAP Forum Award for implementing the market's first value-added all-in-one content filtering solution using iCAP, an open standard for communications among Web content delivery systems.
Webwasher.com and Network Appliance worked closely to develop and deploy their tightly integrated, scalable, high-performance Internet filtering solution for NetCache appliances at HypoVereinsbank, utilizing the iCAP standard to develop a seamless interface.
"Like Network Appliance, we recognized the need to integrate intelligent content filtering products with Internet caching devices and are committed to iCAP at a very early stage, focusing our efforts on quickly developing the first iCAP-integrated product on the market," said Dr. Horst Joepen, CEO of webwasher.com. "As a result, the iCAP version of WebWasher EE today is not only very robust, but has already demonstrated it can scale up to very large numbers of users without any degradations in performance."
Dr. Joepen added, "With a major international customer like HypoVereinsbank already signed up, and other large enterprises currently evaluating the product, our strategy has been fully confirmed. We expect this release to significantly enhance sales by enabling a growing number of iCAP-supporting service providers to deploy WebWasher technologies with their products to deliver intelligently filtered, secure Internet content."
Amit Pandey, director of marketing for the content delivery business unit at Network Appliance said, "The rapid adoption of our joint solution with webwasher.com by a major enterprise like HypoVereinsbank is demonstrative of the powerful, value-added solutions that the iCAP protocol can enable. The open standards approach to iCAP offers the industry a seamless integration tool to continue developing additional services for a richer Internet experience."
Developed specifically for the enterprise market, WebWasher EE adds critical Internet filtering and access control functions to NetCache appliances in a software solution that includes Internet access control. By filtering unwanted files and objects from the HTTP data stream, WebWasher software significantly reduces network load and speeds up Web page caching. Intelligent content filtering also gives administrators the tools they need to protect their organizations from media-type files and Web-based e-mail attachments that commonly carry viruses, trojans and worms. WebWasher EE is the only content filtering software "intelligent" enough to identify and remove malicious scripts and "ActiveX" objects embedded in the HTML of Web pages. Such harmful code can compromise corporate security and result in down time and lost productivity by stealing, deleting or modifying internal company files.
About iCAP iCAP is a simple yet powerful open protocol that enables communication between edge content devices (i.e. Web caches) and application servers that deliver content to Internet access devices. The standard allows enterprises, content providers and ISPs to deliver seamless e-services such as virus scanning, content filtering, targeted advertising and language translation from any Internet access device. Supported by leading Internet infrastructure companies, content delivery service providers and application developers, the first draft of the protocol was completed in March 2000. The Internet community is now prototyping the first e-service offerings using iCAP. More information on this initiative is available from the iCAP Web site at www.i-cap.org.
