Kemo: You have a point. However, a chart is only as good as its assumptions. That chart from which this discussion emanated did not extend reasonably far enough to capture a recession , a bear market, or a soft landing.. It basically reflected a stock market in a boom mode It did have 2 sharp spikes and they were spikes in the truest sense with sharp reversals.

Some time ago , some one posted historical trends similar but extending way back capturing many Bear markets. based on that , it presented another picture.

Establishing bounded trendlines is great when they encapsulate similar conditions. If they dont, they do not prove much.
