Paul,

NetApp.

Yes I saw that. ISS. All about cheaper boxes. Alpha isn't for
everything. I have a PC at home running Windows and I don't do
that for a living.

<Too bad the IA64's competitors keep falling on their faces to keep the door open for an eventual IA64 success>

Don't know... several factors here. Even Jackson Foster ( :-) ) will put a crimp in
things. The problem with further and further slippages is the landscape is changing
around Itanium when it shows up. When they "cut the tape" for Itanium, it must have
been almost 2 years ago (Itanium was "first silicon" August 1999, see other threads
but you know that and that is from memory... does get old dropping a reference for
everything :-/ ) that far back means it is way late and bandwidth numbers alone tell
us something about where it will be at circa 2H 2001 (okay.. maybe June 30th?).

So we wait for Itanium II aka McKinley. Speculation after ISSCC no-show for McKinley
is it will be presented at IDF Feb 27th. If not, expect traderag FUD to fly at McKinley.
A substantial slippage in McKinley will raise the temperature of a few
committed partners I am sure. . . we will see what happens.
