Reading this thread has enabled me to get to know a number of SI participants better. Unfortunately, the most useful thing I've learned about them is that I should avoid any contact with them at all costs.
My husband was raised on a poultry farm. When a bird gets injured, other birds attack, exploiting the unfortunate bird's distress. I can see this behaviour being played out on this thread. My fellow participants on SI can be disgusting.
Fortunately, the majority of the SI community are decent folk who are just trying to communicate their thoughts with others who share common interests. When the heat of the debate gets juices flowing and inappropriate words flying, external restraint must be applied. At these times, when control is most needed, it is also the least desired, and the person experiencing the correction often feels victimized. Over the years, you have become their target.
Now that you have experienced first-hand some of the misfortune that has befallen SI, its parent, its competitors, tech companies, and the general market too, those who have compiled an inventory of resentment are taking advantage of this brief opportunity, and are releasing some of their poison on this thread. I hope that your days as a Free Agent are few, and that you'll soon, if not already, pick a new direction and happily pursue a rewarding career. I wish you the best future.
