Having been on boats I heard tonight that they were doing an emergency blow. You should go to periscope depth to insure that there is no boat traffic before descending to do the blow.

Once you blow several things happen. 1. You can't hear because of all the noise that you are creating. 2. You are on an express elevator for the surface with no way to stop. 3. Keeping the bow down is your only concern as the ballast tanks in the front are larger then the rear causing the bow to want to lift faster giving you the impressive pictures of boats flying out of the water.

Think of it this way, you get on an elevator at the bottom floor and hit a button for the penthouse. As you move up you begin to move faster and faster due to the pressure difference between the ballast tank and the sea pressure lessoning. You are still accelerating as you hit the surface and almost get 3/4 of the boat out of the water.

Someone screwed up as far as making sure there was no traffic in the area.
