I could not resist any longer!

I've done it! I upgraded my PC. I bought an Athlon 1200 (indeed unlocked as apparently most or all 1200s) and the ASUS A7V 133 (Anand's fault...<g>).

1200 (9 x 133): no prob.
1266 (9.5 x 133) with my three old 64MB PC 133 RAM sticks set to 2-2-2: no prob.
1333 (10 x 133): Playing Unreal Tournament for hours without any lockups. CPU core voltage was NOT increased. So there is a good chance that the CPU is stable at 1333 at default voltage.
1400 (10.5 x 133): Windows doesn't load correctly. Didn't try with higher voltage.

Just to be sure and to protect myself from any unpleasant surprises I set the CPU clock multipler back to 9.5 and upped the bus speed a little to 137 (RAM speed set back to 3-3-3, no voltage increase). That gives me exactly 1300 MHz! Played almost the whole night. Not one single lockup!

So I bought an Athlon 1200 and got an Athlon 1300-1333...

And what about the difference compared to my former Slot-A Thunderbird 700 (overclocked to 800)? Answer: It's HUGE. My favorite game is Unreal Tournament. It's a difference like day and night! I always play at 1024x768x32. Before, it was not really smooth, especially in complex situations with heavy fighting. Now it runs smooth as silk. It's like a dream.

Everyone who says that nobody needs so much processing power has no idea what he is talking about. At least he doesn't play Unreal Tournament :-)

Next, I am going to try out video recording/editing with my new PC. I hope I'll see a similar speed increase there.

Athlon rocks!!!!

Peter

PS: Andreas, I also bought a special case for noise reduction. It was expensive but I think it was worth the money. The computer runs really quiet now.
