The news of the lay-offs at 3DO mark the second major shift in this company's history. The first occurred when 3DO abandoned their console in order to make games. Now Hawkins' plan of becoming a major force in the video game software business has changed to simply surviving as a small-time player. I'm predicting Chapter 11 for this company by the end of fiscal 2002 without a big hit in their upcoming releases some of which are now uncertain. Industry consolidation could prove to be another possible answer to 3DO's woes.
