Buy, Who are the consumers who are buying the sub-$1k machines? Are they first-time buyers, thus expanding the market? Are they buyers who already have a PC, and are buying a second (or third) PC, say for the kiddies, thus expanding the market? Until these questions are answered, I believe that worry about an unclear "trend", that may be negative or may be positive, is somewhat premature. My only thought on the matter at this point is that Intel's formula of aggressive volume increases and resultant price-performance improvements has stood it in good stead for quite a while now. You are postulating a change in the market which could just as easily been "predicted" every year for the past decade and a half. Best regards, Arno
