Mr. Patrick O'Brien reports
NovaWest Resources has appointed Dr. Mikkel Schau, PGeo, to the company's
advisory committee. Dr. Schau is a resident of Brentwood Bay, B.C. Dr.
Schau was a key member of NovaWest's Raglan exploration team in 1997 and
1998. He worked closely with Dr. Peter Fischer, PGeo, and together they
were instrumental in the company's "model driven" discoveries at Raglan and
in preparing the postprogram reports and maps. Dr. Schau has more than 30
years consulting experience in the private mining industry, the GSC and
teaching at both McMaster University and the University of Manitoba. For
the past five years, Dr. Schau specialized in platinum group mineral
deposits.
Dr. Schau earned his BSc from the University of British Columbia in 1964,
spent a year in McMaster University, assisted in H.V. Warren's geochemistry
labs at UBC and received his PhD from UBC in 1969. During his distinguished
career, he has mounted numerous regional field programs into remote regions
of northeastern Canada. Dr. Schau has led 11 mapping expeditions for the
GSC resulting in the results being noted in papers and maps on the regional
geology and mineral potential of parts of Nunavut. He has considerable
experience in mapping ultramafic rocks (the archean Prince Albert group)
and layered basic complexes on these expeditions. Dr. Schau is recognized
as a pioneer in applying new digital technologies to mapping geology and
has published papers on the topic. Dr. Schau has provided his expertise as
a consultant to recognized major and junior mining companies providing them
with services ranging from preliminary grass roots prospecting through
petrological, geochemical and numerate interpretations. Recently he has
worked on ultramafic mineral bodies and their related PGM, nickel, copper
and cobalt mineral deposits in the Raglan Belt of Nunavik (Northern Quebec)
where he has assisted in the location and documentation of new platinum
group mineral (PGM) showings. Dr. Schau has considerable experience in
mineral exploration in remote, sensitive areas. Dr. Schau's recent
experience in PGM mineralization continues to complement his previous work
in nickel, copper, lead, zinc, silver, uranium and gold showings.
