The logic connecting CSCO to ORCL is actually pretty strong. It is due to the fact that they both sell to the Fortune 500.

Cisco says in its conference call that there is significant weakness in the manufacturing sector. Big companies, like Alcoa, who might have spent $2B in FY2000 on IT, now are spending only $800M in 2001 (I do not have the exact numbers for Alcoa, this is just an example).

That IT budget is used to buy CSCO boxes, Sun boxes, PCs, and ORCL databases.

About 20% of CSCO customers are in the manufacturing sector, not sure about ORCL, but I would assume its pretty close to that. Not sure though.

We'll see, though, if it actually affects ORCL.
