Russian precious metal recovery from surplus weapons Excerpt of report in English by Russian news agency Interfax Moscow, 13 February: Russia last year recovered 100 tonnes of silver, 742 kg of gold and 686 kg of platinum-group metals from weapons and military hardware slated for recycling. A defence ministry official told a roundtable in the State Duma on the use of precious metals that these weapons and hardware contained 35 tonnes of gold, 300 tonnes of silver and 21 tonnes of platinum- group metals, of which about 10 tonnes of palladium... Enterprises that have won defence ministry tenders collect and process this secondary raw material containing precious metals.
