This market change was in fact predicted prior to the start of this year, and I would say going from under 1% to 29% in 4 months is a significant change in the PC market.

It doesn't matter who is buying them, they are selling. My guess is that they are new households who couldn't afford to purchase a $2k computer which would be obsoleted in 2 years, lower price is bringing them in.

Intel price/performance improvements have been excellent in past years. Typical cost of a new computer has remained roughly the same, peformance has improved dramatically. Now x86 performance is hitting the upper limit; therefore price must come down to entice new buyers. IMHO of course.
