SAN DIEGO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 13, 2001--Wireless Knowledge, Inc., a Microsoft Corp. (Nasdaq:MSFT - news) and QUALCOMM Incorporated (Nasdaq:QCOM - news) company, today announced plans to support QUALCOMM's Binary Runtime Environment for Wireless(TM) (BREW(TM)), a new applications platform for wireless devices, announced Jan. 31, 2001 by QUALCOMM.
Joining a comprehensive roster of industry-leading software developers, Wireless Knowledge has signed an agreement with QUALCOMM to develop a new class of enterprise-grade mobility applications based on the BREW platform.
BREW is a very thin, standardized platform that will support application development for the large and growing Code Division Multiple Access (CDMA) handset market -- from inexpensive, mass-market phones through high-end, multi-purpose wireless devices.
Wireless Knowledge plans to leverage its expertise in business-to-business wireless Internet applications to deliver both packaged software and custom development services for the BREW platform.
The company's initial software offering for BREW will give mobile professionals secure, wireless access to their organization's existing messaging platform, enabling them to globally access and interact -- both online and offline -- with corporate e-mail, calendar and contact information on CDMA devices.
``We are excited to join this group of industry leaders and to demonstrate our support for the BREW platform,'' said Eric V. Schultz, chairman and CEO of Wireless Knowledge.
``This agreement will be a springboard to extend current and next-generation corporate mobility products and services to BREW-enabled devices. In addition, the widespread support of the BREW platform among device manufacturers, carriers and other developers will give us added opportunities to expand our global customer base.''
``Wireless Knowledge was the ideal choice to provide enterprise-class applications for the BREW platform,'' said Peggy Johnson, senior vice president of QUALCOMM and general manager, QUALCOMM Internet Services.
``As a leader in mobility products and services for the enterprise, Wireless Knowledge is well-positioned to introduce corporate applications tailored specifically for BREW-enabled devices on today's cdmaOne networks, as well as 3G cdma2000 networks.''
