JXM: I believe that self awareness happens some time before birth (I have no idea when). I
personally believe that self awareness is a good demarcation point for when abortion would
be acceptable or not. But since I don't know when it happens, I have a tough time telling
someone else what to do with their body or imposing my belief of what the demarcation
point should be.
bp: How about the detection of brain waves in the fetus, Jorj?
We use absence of brain waves, "brain death", as a means of scientific measurement that a person is no longer viable.
(first penalty: viability is not the issue, nor do brain waves in a fetus indicate viability of that fetus. reveals true your agenda though.)
YYB No, not brain waves. Even rats have brain waves, but I wouldn't call them self aware.

YYB: Flippancy? I reiterate: Brain waves do not prove self awareness. Rats have brainwaves. Fetuses have brianwaves at 40 days, and yet are not viable*, nor sentient, nor self aware.
