You were right to be disturbed.

The fact is, X is a very disturbed person. Her acceptance that slavery can be moral is, of course, dependent on her assumption that she would be a slave holder rather than a slave. She would enjoy the absolute power of a slave holder, the right to beat people at will, to mistreat them, to abuse their rights -- or non-rights since she doesn't believe there are any such things as inalienable rights.

If she were to spend a year as a slave, her viewpoint would change dramatically. But that's the problem with people like her -- they have no ability for empathy.
