I was posing a question to Jorj WRT brain waves and fetal development, and you responded with a "rat" one liner.

So I responded in kind.

When I first became aware of abortion as an issue (Roe v Wade decision) I totally agreed with that decision, but I consider that in retrospect I was ignorant of the development of the human fetus at the various stages (and we still continue to expand our knowledge).

I used to believe that the fetus was a "part of" the mother and the mother should have full autonomy over her own body. I currently believe that the fetus is a separate entity dependant upon the mother. I haven't been able to conclude at what point it is morally permissible to destroy nascent human life. A brain wave seems, in my opinion, to connote a distinction of human development that goes beyond a cluster of dividing cells.

I am truly sorry to hear to that you suffered the violence of rape. My husband's grandmother was raped at the age of 86. I hope I never come close to experiencing again the sense of rage that I felt when I learned of that brutal act. I also have a very close friend who's daughter was abducted and raped at the age of 12. I am very cognizant of the passionate feelings of anger and moral indignation that arises out of the crime of rape. But somehow, I cannot translate that anger toward an innocent developing fetus, yet I would not prohibit a woman from obtaining an abortion in such a situation. (an inconsistency, I know)

Fortunately, I think the number of conceptions that occur (at least in the country) as a result of rape are relatively rare. Plus,we have morning after drugs for women after such an assault.
