I don't think ORCL compares more favorably to SEBL or ITWO than CSCO compares to RBAK or JNPR. You are absolutely right, that Oracle hasn't acquired companies and products the way that Cisco has, but at the same time the number of SKUs at work in the networking space is orders of magnitudes greater than in the enterprise software space. Not sure what the direct comparison there means.

All I was saying about the logic tying Cisco to Oracle is that both feed at the same trough, ie, they both get paid out of IT budgets. If that trough narrows, it hurts the biggest feeders the most in absolute numbers, even if the big feeders get a higher %.

When you hear stories of IT budgets going from $2B to $800M, that is bad news for anyone who sells to them, because $1.2B of potential revenue just disappeared, regardless of who should have gotten it.

I am still long ORCL, and long CSCO for that matter. But I am not sure that I would bet that ORCL will have better revenue growth over the next 5 years than Cisco.
