I think it was unintended consequences that Greenspan was probably concerned about. He is still focussed on the Nasdaq.

Expecting a cut soon unless we see a big reversal in the Naz. That is the only way he can send a message that he is serious about further rate cuts. Otherwise too many people take his positive comments to mean that we are all clear and no recession. However, the drop in the markets will only increase the possibility of a recession and that is why I feel he has to make a statement by cutting rates soon.
