You're still confused:

Here's how it works...

Die yield is the number of good die vs. the total possible number of good die on a wafer. So it is a %. Now that is total possible good die of that product type.

For example: let's say you can fit 10 of one product on a wafer, and 20 of another product. Let's then say that you use the first product and get 8 functional die at the end... you have 80% yield... you don't call it 40% yield simply because you could have put 20 of another product on there...
