Note he does not opine about the veracity of the claims upon which he has based his statements.

Corporate managers more generally,rightly or wrongly, appear to remain remarkably sanguine about the potential for innovations to continue to enhance productivity and profits.

At least this is what is gleaned from the projections of equity analysts, who, one must presume, obtain most of their insights from corporate managers..

I don't think these types of statements would satisfy the standard of due diligence, nor could one take any comfort in relying upon them.

It would seems that his opinion is based on hearsay.
