Ted, I don't normally say this but you don't seem to get it. You agreed that there were other sources of energy but they were too expensive. You insisted that this means they are not alternatives. They are too expensive because oil is cheap. If oil gets expensive enough then they will be used even if they do not become any cheaper. Therefore we will have an alternative by definition. I even used your definition.
