My G* 1410 car kit is functioning well. The flakey problems had been due to a bad phone, not the car kit. With the new phone received late last week, there have been no problems.

The bad phone was the data-capable one that had been sent to swap out my original G* phone (there goes my museum treasure). I had made only one or two calls with it before installing the car kit. So there were two variables: new phone and new car kit.

The only 'problems' I'm experiencing now are normal adjustment problems. I got the phone cradle relocated to make it easier to put the phone in and take it out. The microphone may have to be moved to pick up my voice better. The semi-optional (the price included choice of handset of headphone) handset allows better communication than the hands-free mode, of course, because it cuts down on the car noise. My spouse really likes that handset.

It's too early to tell how it will affect my overall phone usage, but I expect that, after finishing testing, I will normally use it a couple of times a month. Twice per month would be a 100% increase over my former once per month test call. Major benefits to me are 1)comfort - I can make and receive calls from the relative comfort of my car, and 2) security - I could make an emergency phone call from beyond cellular coverage. The comfort benefit is what will cause me to use my phone that little bit more, to make a casual phone call, where most people would use their cell phone, because I don't have a cellular subscription.
