>>>I can't even imagine how powerful
an affordable computer will be in, say, ten years.>>>

That's just the point Arno. If an affordable computer is super powerful
why buy one that costs $2-3,000? Just last year people were talking about
the $500 computer and trying to design one. Now you see some that are almost
that cheap with a standard set-up. How can Intel charge more than $40-50
per chip if the PC is $500. They may sell a lot more of them, but margins
have to come down. This is not something Intel can control either. It
is going to be fueled by demand and the consumer. Beyond that I expect you
will see companies like Sun increasingly going after the consumer market
as Intel threatens their business market. We saw Sun's interest in Apple
before. Sun makes spark chips for set-top boxes. These boxes could
become more popular than PC's by the year 2,000, forcing Intel into contortions.
The next level for PC's involves video and video is a market Intel
does not have a strong background in or strong consumer indentification in.
