Chris,

I signed on this morning to find a very long PM from you in which you alleged that my having moderated you off the LWP caused you some sort of difficulty in accessing or negotiating SI, as well as asking why you had been moderated off. You proceded to let me know that you have read my recent posting history and mentioned my Christianity, my educational background, and my political leanings. You asked for a detailed defense of my actions with regard to your moderation based on these three topics.

I answered you promptly, gave you the reason, and told you that I was not interested in long involved defenses of my actions based on my beliefs. I received a response from you in which you asked why X hadn't been moderated off and again stating that you had not, in your opinion, violated my thread header. I told you in my second PM to you that I am no judge and this is no court case. I am merely a woman trying to run a small conversation in cyberspace. You responded with a PM that I found offensive, calling me a dictator, alleging that I was acting abusively and perpetuating injustice. I responded by asking you not to write to me again. You answered quickly and asked me to tell you what was offensive.

I now have you on PM ignore, but since you've taken our private discussion public, I'll respond to you here. I run two moderated threads on SI. On one of them, an options-related thread, I've used the moderation feature only once or twice. people usually respond positively to a warning that their behavior is intrusive. On the other, the LWP, I have a long list of people who have been moderated off. It has been with no glee or rush of power that I have done this. I intended the thread to be a place where the politically left-leaning can hang out and talk without constant argument from the right. This was not respected by a large number of people, many of whom, as you have, dragged longstanding personal arguments to the thread.

Frankly, I was naive when I started the LWP. I'd never posted on any of the political threads and was ill-prepared for the onslaught of posts and high emotion. At this point, the LWP is a small thread, one posted on by a number of people (both male and female, I might add) who are not self-described liberals, as well as some of us old-time lefties. It's a friendly thread because, regardless of political stances, the people who post there are respectful of the header.

I am delighted that you have told us all of your efforts to battle segregation thirty years ago. It must have been a supreme act of courage and personal strength and the world has benefitted from it. This, however, does not give you liscence to bully others into doing what you want, in the name of "justice", Hodgkin-style.
