The whole flap about moderated threads defies my comprehension. Some conversation is public and some is private. Freedom of speech, whether by liberal or conservative definition, does not entitle anyone to force their way into a private conversation.

Some threads are public. Some are private. The private ones have arbitrary rules, enforced at the discretion of the private "owner" of the thread. I see nothing to object to there.

I'm sure I'm banned on the RWET, but I'll never find out because I'll never post there. Why would I want to talk to people who clearly don't want to talk to me?

A poster who stayed entirely on moderated threads might legitimately be accused of avoiding the free marketplace of ideas. Since the posters on these threads seem to post, often abundantly, on unmoderated threads as well, I see no reason to suspect that they are avoiding anything.

If people wish occasionally to retire to a private conversation with their friends, what business is it of mine? Their criteria for choosing their friends is not for me to criticize; if I don't like the conversation, I don't have to read it.

A lot of flap about nothing.
