Hi Rich,
I ran a historical analysis in Automatic Investor on the Nasdaq Biotechnology Index between 1/1/96 & 12/31/00. The Best SAFE I got was at 5-5. I also tried Keith's idea of a minimum trade of $1,000 - 500 was better. Actually the range of returns for all the variations I tried over the 5 year period was:
5-5 = 390% (500 min)
5-5 = 368 (1,000 min)
all others with 500 min & O shares min
10-10 = 350%
25-0 = 360%
65-10 = 333%
65-0 = 346%
5-0 = 378%

As you can see there is not a lot of difference over such a long period. I will probably go with 5-5/500 & do vealies.
