Classic Innovators Dilemma problem. Could not agree with you more. According to Christensen's thesis, EMC has no, I repeat NO, hope of developing a product to compete with NTAP's products inside of EMC. This is not because EMC is not big enough, rich enough or have people who are smart enough. It is because their entire way or operating - their management structure, operational systems, and reward structure, etc. are built around their existing main product line. Knowing they have to change is not enough. Doing it inside their current structure is all but impossible according to Christensen.
