Back during the Buddy Holly recording days, the amplification was done using tube-type amplifiers. Do you or anyone else know why the tube-amps sound better? Some of the most expensive audiophile equipment today use tubes in their amplifiers. What was so good about them, other than watching them glow once they warmed up? One has to wonder what is taking so long on this ADS sale. I wonder if Eastman Kodak could be a potential bidder - aren't they involved in digitizing movie films? Seems like buying ADS for their DST line would be a drop in the bucket for Kodak.
