Appshop Selects Network Appliance Storage Solutions to Support Oracle Database Applications

Application Service Provider (ASP) Deploys NetApp® F840c Filers to Manage Critical Customer Data

SUNNYVALE, Calif.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2001-- Network Appliance, Inc. (Nasdaq:NTAP - news), the leading provider of network-attached data access and content delivery solutions, today announced that Appshop, the leading application service provider (ASP) of Oracle® applications, has deployed Network Appliance(TM) storage solutions to manage its customers' critical data.

Appshop deployed multiple clustered pairs of the NetApp F840c filers, providing the company with 11TB of data storage capabilities -- along with Snapshot(TM), SnapMirror(TM), and SnapRestore(TM) backup and recovery software to handle the company's stringent storage management and data protection requirements.

``In evaluating storage technologies, we were looking for a high-performance, high-availability storage platform that is easily managed,'' said Michael Jennings, vice president of operations at Appshop. ``We compared the F840c filer from Network Appliance to both traditional direct-attached storage as well as storage-area networks (SANs), and found the manageability, cost, and performance of the NetApp filers to be the perfect combination of power and flexibility.''

Appshop also cited the benefits of the clustered failover configuration of the F840c filers as a key reason for the deployment. This failover capability delivers high data availability by implementing failover at both the hardware and software level. Clustered pairs work by ``failing over'' data service to the partner filer in the event that one of the filers becomes unavailable. This configuration ensures that data remains accessible with little or no disruption to personnel and customers.

``Enterprises and service providers cannot afford to lose access to their data,'' said Mark Santora, senior vice president of marketing at Network Appliance. ``Companies like Appshop that are responsible for mountains of mission-critical data in an Oracle environment must have a storage architecture that allows for immediate accessibility without downtime. The architecture of the F840c allows clients continuous access to their mission-critical data, independent of server availability.''

The Network Appliance F840c filer, designed to interoperate and excel within existing IT infrastructures, seamlessly migrates and incorporates emerging open storage network protocols and topologies, enabling customers like AppShop with massive capacity environments to simplify, share, and scale their critical storage networking infrastructures.

Appshop is a ``Powered by Network Appliance'' customer, utilizing proven NetApp storage solution architecture to build an infrastructure that protects and manages critical business content.

Network Appliance will present ``Deploying eBusiness Solutions More Quickly Using Innovative Storage Technologies,'' in conjunction with Appshop, at Oracle AppsWorld in New Orleans. The presentation is being given on Friday, February 23 from 2:15-3:00 p.m.
