GlobalNetXchange Launches Exchange-Based CPFR Implementation

SAN FRANCISCO--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Feb. 14, 2001--GlobalNetXchange (GNX), the leading business-to-business online exchange for the retail industry, today announced that Sainsbury's will be the first company to implement the GNX Collaborative Planning, Forecasting and Replenishment (CPFR(R)) solution with their trading partners Unilever (Lever-Faberge UK) and Kimberly-Clark Europe.

Using Manugistics NetWORKS(TM) collaborative solutions as the foundation for its CPFR services, GNX offers retailers and suppliers end-to-end supply chain visibility to improve the accuracy of demand forecasting, reduce inventory levels, and reduce supply chain cycles, while also meeting service level requirements. The benefits of using GNX include reduced technology implementation costs, retail industry expertise, and consulting and implementation support.

"Sainsbury's is known to be a leader in developing proprietary collaboration systems. We are pleased to have them be the first to implement the GlobalNetXchange CPFR solution with world class companies such as Kimberly-Clark and Unilever," said Joe Laughlin, CEO, GlobalNetXchange.

GNX is the only retail exchange that has installed and has operational its CPFR application, with trading partners linked and ready to use the application. This first collaboration will cover products in the health & beauty, baby care, and household categories.

"GNX aims to provide unparalleled CPFR services to the retail industry, and Manugistics is committed to meeting their aggressive implementation timetable to speed the delivery of benefits to GNX members," said Greg Owens, Manugistics chairman and chief executive officer.

"CPFR allows Sainsbury's to expand the collaborative work that we have been developing with our suppliers. It is an opportunity for Sainsbury's and our supplier partners to improve availability, reduce inventory and increase sales on all products, focusing on product ranges that have a significant impact on the end to end supply chain

-- for example promoted products or seasonally impacted lines," said David Simister, Supplier Relations manager, Sainsbury's Supermarkets Limited. "GNX provides implementation support and training, consistent collaboration standards for all trading partners, shared learnings, and is actively developing additional functionality to take CPFR to the next level."

"CPFR can potentially bring process and structure to supply chain management. Unilever will work with companies like GNX that bring standardization of data formats and workflow and are a central location for communicating with multiple trading partners," said Philip Daenens, corporate account manager e-exchanges, Unilever.

"By working with Sainsbury's and GNX, we can expand our use of CPFR practices across the retail industry, and further develop and share best practices on a global level," said Michael Richart, team leader -- Demand Management, Kimberly-Clark Europe.
