It helps us sleep better? Uh, I'm tossing jokes again (funny or not). But then I do think some hold beliefs for that reason. So maybe some of my "truth" is showing.

I agree with you that they should lead to action. I have found, in talks with others, that I go to what seems to be a rather far point with it. I think our thoughts affect the world around us. And what I believe to be the manner in which I will act, needs to become more and more, the manner in which I think. I don't buy "I can't help what I Think".

But, I think (just think right now), that I would draw a line between acceptance of another's beliefs and their actions. If their beliefs made it okay to kill those of another religious sect, nation, whatever... my own world view would make me want to try and persuade them otherwise. But as morals, to me, is a social contract, not an ultimate truth, I would see that as trying to bring more people into a particular social contract. But I couldn't say it's the way the world is supposed to be. Just the way I want it to be. But I don't see that lessening the strength of, or foundation, of my beliefs, or desire for action and thought that supports them.

And not all truths or beliefs that we hold as individuals have any effect on people outside of ourselves.
