re: Huey, that's an oxymoron--"long term" and "in the last year".

I disagree that my statement looking at one year and drawing long term conclusions is an oxymoren. Investors long term earnings models (assuming they had one) for some of these companies depended on consistent hypergrowth (or very high growth rates) in earnings (or revenues) over the next few years followed by a slow down in the long run. It is now clear that the expectations many investors held in the winter of year 2000 for either earnings or revenue growth for their companies for calendar year 2001 will not even come close to fruition, and in some cases will be fifty per cent lower than original expectations. With a severe slowdown coming in earnings or revenue growth in the "early years" of investors' growth models, it is clear that many investors five year growth models from year 2000 have already been rendered useless--- unless investors are willing to make even more outlandish projections for revenue and earnings growth for their companies beginning in year 2002. Hence, my near term (short term) look at how many investors grossly overestimated many companies' growth rates has already had a critical impact on the long term view for these companies that was held in winter 2000.

Best, Huey

P.S. Of course none of this speaks to current stock prices and the forward outlook we have today.
