Can you change a setting to enable the window to be without the surrounding items? Especially the left hand side which is entitled "My Stuff".

You can change the content of the home page by clicking "help & settings" in the upper right hand corner of your screen.

As far as the left frame goes,it's non removable.Of course this is the only window(page) that has that appearance as all new windows that are opened are normal,no frame.

Last night I looked at a screenshot of the new Windows XP (Whistler) and see a lot of similarities.I see MSN Explorer as a prelude to the future.

Back to the home page,my workaround to avoid seeing all the "junk" is after booting up I hit a hot key and it brings up the login screen and then opens my regular home page(Yahoo) all in one seamless operation.
