More nighttime reading for Andrew - I would appreciate your thoughts on exchange2000.com and the article it references (http://techweb.cmp.com/eet/news/97/957news/ibmtries.html). Briefly, it looks to my untrained eye that they are saying in the future masks may be constructed in much the same way chips are now (on a silicon substrate, with deposition and etching). On the surface, this looks like it would benefit silicon suppliers and would be a significant challenge to today's maskmakers (complete retooling, opening the door to new competition, etc.)
