there are advantages and disadvantages to consider. you have already named the big advantage of Rydex - btw, if you have a very strong opinion, you can place bets with i believe 'Tempest', which is 2 times inversely related to the S&P. of course it carries higher risk than URSA.

the disadvantage lies mostly with timing - while SPY trades can be entered anytime, Rydex trades are only possible until a certain cut-off time, which varies from broker to broker. i would recommend to deal with Rydex directly (i.e. open an account with them) if you plan to trade the Rydex funds. the limitations will be far less severe.
