here's a thought

couldn't he install an uninstaller (symantec's norton systemworks, for example, contains cleansweep), then reinstall the software, allowing cleansweep to monitor the installation, then turn around and have cleansweep uninstall it.

that would take the burden off his shoulders off doing reg edits, and uninstall tools often do a far better job of getting every little shared file and hidden .dll

sounds convoluted, but then, that's computing!
