I don't think it is as much an entitlement as much as it is unavoidable. I can argue with someone who believes, despite modern scientific evidence to the contrary, that animals are incapable of thinking. You ask them for the bases of these opinions and it turns out it is some personal experience or bias. Despite the parochial nature of their information, they resist new information and prefer to hold onto belief.

If someone wants to believe this or that, I really have no problem with that belief until they turn that into action or want to present it in a public forum (presumably to spread it to others who don't hold that belief). If they publicly present these ideas, I think it is our duty to point out the silliness of the notions they have floating around in their head.
