pat,

i think that you have a far better understanding of jdsu than
the analysts do.

but i've listened to the analysts and kevin and joseph and
tony for several years and i respect tony's firm response
to stupid and/or off-base questions. frankly, i've been
surprised by the low intelligence or down-right sophomoric
questions from the "analysists".

the press reports of the recent conference call show how
low is the level of the analyists' understanding.

finally, i'd like to discuss with you "market manipulation"
which you mentioned. i don't think shorting is "manipulation". i think that spreading misinformation or
false rumors is manipulation. i also think than if mutual
fund managers agree over lunch to sell the hell out of a
stock so that they can but it back cheaper--that is
manipulation. but simply shorting is legit in my book, although i've never done it.

when i mentioned riding the tiger i may have used the wrong
metaphor. what i meant to impart is that this market is
a real battle between the bulls and the bears and that
there are some tough and powerful characters out there who
care only for their own profits regardless of the cost to
others.
