Looks like Hector agrees with Jerry that real men build fabs.

RIO DE JANEIRO, Feb 15 (Reuters) - U.S. chipmaker Advanced Micro Devices Inc. <AMD.N> plans to build a factory in Brazil, Valor Economico business daily reported Thursday.

AMD's president Hector Ruiz told Brazil's Development Minister Alcides Tapias During a visit to the Brazilian capital of Brasilia that the company will build the factory with a Brazilian partner, the newspaper said.

Tapias said the giant chipmaker was attracted by a law that provides tax breaks for producers of technology products. Brazil passed the law at the beginning of the year in a bid to spur value-added output in Latin America's largest economy.

AMD will send a technical team to Brazil to pick a site, but the company already has its eye on the country's wealthier southern region.

Intel Corp. <INTC.O>, the world's No. 1 chip maker and AMD's competitor, denied speculation last year that it had immediate plans to build a manufacturing plant in Brazil, but it didn't rule out seeking a local assembly partner.
