Bruce, need to add: the "we are all traders now" certainly seems to apply to mutual fund managers, and I believe it is they who are creating the huge volatility we have been seeing. Unfortunately for all of us, unlike us they do not pay taxes on their trades (tho their customers do). Taxing mutual funds on their short term trades would quiet the volatility in no time. (I am not holding my breath).
