The only point I'm trying to make when I point out I was a Republican (registered) between '71 and '98 is that the party took a turn for the worse in the late '90s, I recognized this, and said "No more for me, thank you." Monicagate-the impeachment was one wrong turn. The GOP became so obsessed with nailing Clinton that it lost sight of its true calling. Other issues further drove me into the Democratic camp: school vouchers; big tax breaks for the wealthy, no tax break for the single mother making $21,000 a year with two kids; corporate welfare; the GOP's opposition to campaign finance reform. On and on and on.
