I was a bit confused by their calling even a secularist a
Christian. Doesn't make any sense to me.

I don't know. I know that there are lots and lots of people out there who are no more religious than I am who, for whatever reason, just go with the flow and call themselves Christians. This is particularly true for people in business or in public life. Why offend others if you don't have to? You can join a church for the networking. You can attend services on Christmas if you're into nostalgia. No big deal. It's easy to pass if you can tolerate the hypocrisy and you join one of the more sedate churches so you're not expected to vocalize. Some people demand that others be the "right kind" of Christian, but for most people, just calling yourself one and then shutting up is enough. I could call myself a Christian if I wanted. I was, after all, baptized.
