Joe,

That's true, but once a year or so, that we see a newer memory speed, AMD can just upgrade the CPU. The speed of core revisions seems to be at least this fast, even faster.

The core revisions you are seeing do not involve significant logic changes. Redesigning a DRAM controller to support a new memory type is a huge task, and risks delaying the processor.

Look at the CPU's with onboard memory controllers:

1. Timna - dead as a doornail
2. Alpha 21364 - catatonic
3. Cyrix MXi - same
4. Intel 386 L?X - same
5. Sun Majic - what a joke

The only successful one is the MediaGX, which lost it's place in the PC world by being too late transitioning to SDRAM.

Onboard memory controllers or graphics are a big, bad no-no.
