Speech recognition has been a computer science holy grail for a long time. Bill Gates talks about it all the time, though Microsoft hasn't exactly shown anything useful that I know of. I imagine that speech recognition for text input will get pretty commonplace soon enough, but for actually telling computers what to do? I'm quite skeptical too, it's hard enough telling people what to do, and they got a lot of specialized hardwired dedicated to the task, along with a genetic endowment. Open the pod bay door, Hal.
