RED, They're actually in the rapid prototyping business and aiming for the rapid tooling, then rapid manufacturing business. Their clients are CAD users. Check out their website at stratasys.com. You might also want to check out their main (and larger) competitor, 3-D Systems at 3d.com.

3-D's primary product is based on stereolithography whereas Stratasys relies on fused deposition modeling (FDM). 3-D has come out with a product to try and compete with the low-end Stratasys machine (Genesis).

Stratasys' products are cheaper across-the-board, simpler, and most use a variety of modeling materials. Where they haven't yet caught up to stereolithography is in accuracy.

Stratasys has been growing market share for the last three years and appears to be taking it at 3-D's expense. There are a variety of other players in this field (Helysis sp?) being the largest (but actually in a separate niche). I can't remember the exact figures but I think it's approx. 3-D @ 40%, Stratasys @ 25%, and Helysis @ 20%.

I heartily suggest you get the investor's packet from all three companies. I like Stratasys, but I certainly wouldn't turn my nose up at 3-D.

Good luck and let me know what you think.--Robert
