The Republicans were afraid of him rising to power because CLinton was a moderate southern Democrat. Even Jerry Jones of the Dallas Cowboys was involved although it was before he owned the team.

Rich Republicans in Arkansas tended to like segregation and resented the equal rights movements that began with the Democrats.
