Apropos of nothing.

There seems to be glacial shift in the internal dynamics of the market in the last few months (essentially, after the selling climax in the techs in late Fall, 2000). Through most of the 90s, I've noticed that particular sectors tend to move in tandem on a daily basis. And of course, to some extent, they still do.

But since virtually all of my long-term portfolio, in stocks, mutual funds, and CEF's, are in value properties, I've noticed that there are days like this where value stocks tend to move in one direction, and the rest of the market in the other.

Today is one of those days when my holdings drastically underperformed the market (I'm lucky if I broke even today). Luckily, the outperforming days have outnumbered the underperforming the bad ones.

I'm wondering if others have noted this phenomenon, and whether it means anything in particular.
